Bushinkai: Purely effective, traditional, intelligent Karate for adults. Men and women 18+ welcome of all abilities and experience.
WHAT MAKES OUR KARATE DIFFERENT?
It’s not sport Karate, it’s not kids Karate, it’s not McDojo Karate. It is self defence orientated with adult students in mind. Self defence is our priority. From day one students learn practical skills. The Karate and Jujutsu taught in Bushinkai is called Hakuda Kempo Toshu Jutsu. This is the original Okinawan method of Karate (Toshu Jutsu) intertwined with the brutally effective Japanese Jujutsu known as Hakuda.
We do not teach sport Karate nor do we teach Brazilian ‘Ju Jitsu’ – our Karate and Jujutsu is direct from the masters of Japan, Okinawa, China and Malaysia.

WHAT KIND OF KARATE IS IT?
The system is called ‘Hakuda Kempo Toshu Jutsu’. This was established to look past the branch styles to the original roots of Karate. It is Karate taught for the original purpose – effective self defence.
BUT WHERE DOES IT COME FROM?
The main influences on our Karate are:
1) Shoto Ryu and Budokan: The original Karate of Gichin Funakoshi, and Budokan, the system devised by Grandmaster Chew based on his studies of Kanken Toyama’s Keishinkan and Zenryo Shimabukuro’s Shudokan, combined with his studies of Okinawan Karate and Chinese Kung Fu (our instructor graded to 5th Dan under Shihan Handyside, a student of Kanazawa and Chew).
2) Nisseikai: A softer style of Okinawan Goju Ryu that includes influences from Chinese Freeding Crane Kung Fu. It was devised by Tadanori Nobetsu, a Goju Ryu master who also trained in the white crane style in the republic of China (our instructor graded to 3rd Dan under Kyoshi Parsons, a student of Nobetsu)
3) Our other influences include Nihon-Jujutsu (Authentic Japanese Jujutsu), classical Okinawan Karate Jutsu (derived from Motobu Ryu), Classical Chinese martial arts.
