Welcome to the Bushinkai Academy of Martial Arts.
Bushinkai was established in 2000 it comprises two Academies:
Metal Tiger Academy: Headed by Sifu David Keegan
– Chinese Internal Martial Arts (Tai Chi, Shaolin and Chi Kung)
White Lion Academy: Headed by Shihan Simon Keegan
– Japanese and Okinawan martial arts (Karate, Nihon Jujutsu, Aikido, Kobudo)
The Bushinkai headquarters (Hombu Dojo) is at Circle Martial Arts, Newton Street, Manchester, a fully equipped, fully matted martial arts centre. As well as our Karate & Jujutsu session there are also classes in Muay Thai, Ninjutsu and more.
Bushinkai is affiliated to Shikon Martial Arts, and via Shikon all major governing bodies (including Karate England, BCCMA, IWF, IKU, WUKF) and we are also founder members of the United Kingdom Budo Federation.
Sifu David Keegan, who began his martial arts studies more than 55 years ago has dedicated much of the last 20 years to the Chinese art of Yang style Tai Chi. He has also trained under some of Japan’s leading grandmasters of Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu. Read more about Sifu here.
Shihan Simon Keegan has formally studied the Shotokan/Budokan styles of Karate for more than 20 years and graded on the mat up to 5th Dan. But he has also looked further back at some of Karate’s older roots. Training in Okinawan Karate and Kobudo, studying Chinese martial arts and researching authentic Hakuda and Yawara (old schools of Jujutsu). Read more about Simon here.
Robert Casement Sensei has been accepted into Bushinkai as our Aikido representative. His teacher Alan Ruddock was a friend and teacher of Simon’s. The late Shihan Alan was not only the first man to introduce Karate and Aikido to his native Ireland he was also one of very few westerners to train with the founder of Aikido Morihei Ueshiba.
